| The Ka`ohe rainforest has seen some
changes. In the early 1900's the ohia trees were logged to make railroad ties
for California. The native forests were decimated. Luckily, some patches of
forest re-sprouted. Our neighbors, the Sato family, purchased a section in
1941. Through vision and hard work, the Sato family nurtured the trees and
brought more tree fern to recreate the native forest. They planted anthurium
and they thrived (both flowers and Sato family). After three generations of
flower farming, 2005 brought some changes. The Sato family offered to sell the
farm to their neighbors (that's us!). We gathered up our resources and our
family and are determined to be as hard working and dedicated as the Sato
family. |
